The role of the Retail Greenhouse Assistant Manager is to provide great customer service to Greenhouse customers,  mentorship for Greenhouse employees, and assistance to the Greenhouse Manager for varieties of greenhouse operations and planning.   The qualified applicant must have a strong background in annuals, tropicals and house plants + experience leading teams in a retail garden center environment.

Requirements

  • Educational background in horticulture or tenure in professional greenhouse/horticulture related roles 
  • Knowledge expert for care and sales of annuals, tropicals, house plants and succulents
  • Retail or customer service industry experience 
  • Professional experience in leading, training, or mentoring teams preferred  
  • Must be a self-motivated, team player with excellent interpersonal skills & creative problem solving 
  • Creative, energetic, enjoys working outside and with people in the community
  • Reliability and flexibility  with schedule – availability to work overtime, evenings,  and weekends based on the seasonal needs of a Garden Center 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Interest in and ability to learn administrative tasks including professional customer correspondence, inventory software programs, and cash register support 
  • Organizational skills in a fast paced environment; ability to keep self and team on track with goals 
  • Ability to perform physically demanding activity in an all-season outdoor environment
  • Pest control applicators’ license a plus
  • Bilingual is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Customer and employee knowledge resource for the care and sales annuals, tropicals, and houseplants
  • Plant health resource; assistance with evaluating and treating plants for diseases, fungus, insect and other pests, and overall plant health
  • Team resource for Greenhouse workflow; department resource in absence of Greenhouse Manager 
  • Custom container design support; design custom container plants and customer service desk support 
  • Process and design support for potting annuals, hanging baskets, and patio pots 
  • Superior and professional customer service and real time problem resolutions 
  • Assistance and strategy input for proper merchandising and product presentation
  • Team building, training, and mentoring sales associates and college interns 
  • Greenhouse vendor resource in absence of Greenhouse Manager 
  • Quality onboarding and training of new Greenhouse Employees.  Contributor to onboarding and training strategies
  • Inventory support and plant tagging
